I bought my Bel 980 about 2 weeks ago, and I'm glad I did. Finally a radar detector that
does what it is supposed to do! Before I made my purchase, I did my due diligance and did some research on the web to hear what the critics had to say about the different detectors on the market. After a few hours of searching and a lot of reading, I decided to go with the Bel 980. I have always heard good things about Beltronics, so I said what the heck let's go for it.
I had almost given up on radar detectors completely after the previous three that I have owned in the course of my driving years. Every detector that I had owned was a top market brand with low performance. I actually got more tickets using the detectors than when I didn't have a detector at all. I thought I was safe having my radar detector on, but what would happen is that by the time I got a signal to alert me that I was being targeted, it was too late. Not to mention that they never stopped beeping no matter where I was.
Now to the Bel 980. What an awesome product. In the two weeks that I have owned this detector,it has already saved me twice. The range that this detector picks up the signals is incredible. In one instance I would say that the detector picked up the signal approximately 3 miles from where the speed trap was, and the other was about 1 3/4 miles on a curvy and hilly road. I was amazed to say the least. The functions on this detector are great and easy to use. The alerts are
crystal-clear, as are the voice prompts too. I love the digital display; it's bright and the combination of having a bar meter and numeric display to tell you the strength of the signal is very helpful. Also, the fact that this is an upgradeable product to protect against future threats makes this detector a must-have for the person looking for a superior product. As for false alarms, I get almost none, and I live in the city where false alarms should be a constant like they were in the other detectors I've owned. There are a lot of detectors out there right now offering digital compasses, GPS or voice reminders on the detectors. My suggestion to you is that if you want a compass, GPS or voice recorder, then go buy one, but if you want a radar detector that's gonna detect, then get the Bel 980. Great looking and super sensitive.
