Hello,
Mini JCW r56 (with aero-kit) and these are carbon fiber diffusers that I made. first of all I was planning to make challenge replicas but they were too much empty and non-cultivated without the middle skirt,and looking too much "hard core" without any shaping on the end. So I decided to make my own design...
I used 8 layers of CF and my layering order goes: - 2lay. of 160g twill weave CF, - 2l of 280g plain braided CF , - one layer of honeycomb sandwich material (for getting thickness, and therefore also achieving great strength characteristics ) , -2l of 280g plain braided CF , - 2l of 160g twill weave CF. I was also using temp. resistant epoxy resin system because of close distance to exhausts (It stands up to 140 deg C) . All these layers were placed dry, then the air was sucked out and when 100% vacuum was achieved, resin was released and liquored through all these layers. When mold was completely liquored, resin valve was closed but vacuum still remained at -0,8 bar, sucking out all the air and curing 2 hours on 140 deg C.
When piece cured I was really curious about it's strength so I tried to stand on it, then I also jumped a little on it and as you can see they are still in one piece. I have 90kg + ittle bit of jumping we can say that one diffuser withstands aprox. 120kg of force... Because of process used one piece weights only 420g. They are also "non-scratchable" and UV- resistant coated.
